New White Wolf Firearm Damages:

Index

Introduction:

Well, White Wolf has overhauled its system, so let's re-examine the damages for Whitewolf. The "Armory" supplement book does a good job of being inclusive of as many firearms/ammo types as possible. But, they left a few out.

The Authors have attempted to get prices for as many types of ammunition as possible although getting a price was impossible in some cases. For common ammunition types, there is often a large variety of costs for ammunition. The Authors generally used low end prices but not the absolute lowest prices for the ammunition. Most Russian ammunition prices are based on Russian Military Surplus prices. Non Surplus is about twice as expensive on average but is of much higher quality. For exact prices on ammunition, the Authors suggest that the reader search through gun magazines or online ammunition websites. Some of the ammo prices are estimated and should not be taken as real life costs. Many of the specialty ammo types are very hard to get a hold of but may be specially made. Given the right equipment, a good gunsmith can make most varieties of ammunition.

Note, some of the damages have been changed.

Whitewolf Problem 1: Hollowpoint damages. Why would you have a weapon that doesn't fire hollowpoint ammo? If you knew, saw or hunt any of the creatures in Whitewolf games, you would want the best weapon available to stop them. I would use these values as damages with hollowpoint ammo and assume everyone uses hollowpoint ammo and not give munchkins bonus damage for saying they use hollowpoints. Technically, a hollowpoint and a regular FMJ round would do the same damage, but the FMJ round has a greater chance of over-penetrating and make a bigger wound channel.

Whitewolf Problem 2: Vampires take bashing damage from guns but lethal from swords? Some say that this reflect vampires being dead and having less fluid in their body to cause shockwaves. As was pointed out earlier, this is wrong. Whitewolf's official/unofficial response is that vampires having sword fights is cooler than them having gun fights. I think they should both do lethal damage, but that's just me. Not, according to the rules, a toddler (strength 1) with a kitchen knife (Damage 1) is as dangerous as a 9mm handgun (Damage 2). The best energy a trained mideviel swordsman could produce with a long sword (thrust or slash) was about 60 Foot-Pounds.

WhiteWolf Problem 3: Armor converts all damage to Bashing? A Flak jacket that wasn't good against any pistol round can now convert an .375 H&H Mag round to bashing? A gun that is supposed to kill Rhinos in one shot can't penetrate a thin layer of balistic Nylon? Come on. More realistic is that the armor converts to bashing any firearm that's base damage is less than or equal to the armor rating.

Armor Piercing Rounds: See the White wolf Armory book. GMs should remember that very few calibers have AP ammo made (mostly military rifles and some large caliber pistols for hunting) for them and they are highly illegal. The rounds above designated with AP are naturally Armor Piercing and can not be increased with AP ammunition.
Shotgun Buckshot inflicts +1 Damage at close range (no change at other ranges), but doubles armor value.
